Effective thermal management is critical for modern electronics, from CPUs and GPUs to EV battery modules and LED lighting systems. Two of the most common solutions are thermal pads and thermal grease (thermal paste). While both are designed to improve heat transfer between components and heat sinks, their properties and applications differ significantly.

1. What Are Thermal Pads?

Thermal pads are soft silicone sheets filled with thermally conductive particles. They are designed to fill air gaps between heat-generating devices (such as chips or batteries) and heat sinks.

Thermal grease, also known as thermal paste, is a silicone-based compound with conductive fillers. It is applied as a thin layer between components to minimize contact thermal resistance.

    • Very high thermal conductivity (up to 7.5 W/m·K)

    • Excellent for high-power devices requiring efficient heat transfer

    • Long service life, with stable performance under high temperatures

  • Applications: CPUs, GPUs, power modules, LED drivers, communication hardware.
